Have you ever gotten something that you thought you really wanted and then realized maybe you don't want it? And you want something else?
Thats whats happening to me right now. I thought I really wanted to move to the Bay Area. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I want to stay in Boston.
I think its the roof deck's fault. Well and Beacon Hill. And my brother. And my friends. And my ward.

whit, my dear. take comfort in the fact that in your twenties, NOTHING stays static for more than about a year. by this time in 2007 your ward, your brother, your roofdeck and your friends could all have played musical chairs.
remember that at this time last year i was watching red sox games in arlington with about eight people who no longer live there...it's kind of intoxicating to embrace the possibilities of change.
obviously karren thomas does not play into this equation at all :P
But seriously it is hard to make these decisions.
I would say map it out in your head - what are the worst case scenarios (realistically) for the different options. Like k8 said, is it possible that lots of these things could change in Boston? But then again, your mom is leaving CA, and lots of things might change there as well.
Honestly, life unfolds in ways you can't plan for, and I don't think either choice is a bad one.
